Chole
Chitti's Kitchen

February 13, 2010

I am writing down a really simple & easy version of Chole. My friend in Alwar used to make it this way. All you’ve got to do is to put all the stuff into the pressure cooker, of course in requisite order & lo! the Chole is ready to be eaten.

I am planning to add more recipes of this kind that are quick, wholesome, nourishing & TASTY for the benefit of my young friends who are always in a rush & don’t want to spend too much time or energy in the kitchen.

Happy Cooking !

Ingredients

Method

  1. Wash & drain the soaked kabuli chana and chana dal & put into the pressure cooker.Add 4 cups of water & the soda if you are using it. Cook until pressure is released once ,then turn the flame down to low & cook for about half an hour.Keep aside until pressure is completely released.Remove a little of the water in the chana, if there is too much of it & keep aside. It can be added later if required.
  2. Open the cooker & place on the stove again. Add tomatoes, salt, chilli powder, coriander powder, amchoor & the masala & cook on low flame. Mash the chanas a bit with the spoon & simmer for 10 -15 mins more. Test for taste.
  3. Top with chopped coriander.
  4. Can be served with rotis or puris, pav or chawal.

Notes / Variations

You can have it as a snack too ………..

Spoon some chole onto a plate. Top with green chutney, imli chutney, chopped onions, chopped coriander & fine sev. Tastes deadly.

Both the chutneys are now available bottled in the supermarkets.
